Devil May Cry is one of the first PlayStation 2 games I played. My friend had rented it for the weekend and we both enjoyed it. Years later, I invested in the Devil May Cry Collection for PlayStation 2, thinking I’d love to play through the series. Man, I regretted that decision.
I don’t know what changed within me, but I found myself not liking the gameplay. I’m not a fan of the stylish action genre and it doesn’t help that I don’t over invest in a single title. I’m usually there to ride out the story and then it’s time to move on. Doing flashy combos to get a higher rank just never appealed to me.
The game’s development originates from a Resident Evil prototype, so I do appreciate the atmosphere and environments. They’re gloomy and dark, even though the main character is quite boisterous.
Because I bought the collection, I had to suffer through two more games that did little for me.
