One of the most fascinating things about Final Fantasy XI is that the game featured cross-console play. Players on PlayStation 2, PC and Xbox 360 could all play together. It’s impressive, given the rarity of the feature even today.
I’ve played every version of Final Fantasy XI and I have to say the 360 version is the most disappointing. It’s not worse than the PlayStation 2 version, but you’d think the 360 would be able to run a PS2 game at a consistent frame rate. For some reason, the game is quite choppy. Every time you enter an area, there’s a solid one or two seconds where the game just completely freezes.
Considering the slow speed of Final Fantasy XI, some choppiness does little to hurt the gameplay. The PC version is still your best bet, especially since both console versions will be shut down in March of 2016.

However, the greater loss is the PS2 version which had many unique graphical effects that didn’t come over to other releases of the game. Thankfully, someone noticed and archived some of these.
