I don’t have much to say about Guitar Hero World Tour. I lack interest in most non-video game music, so I just played Eye of the Tiger whenever possible.
Instead, I’ll use this space to say that rhythm games never jived with me. I like having structured progression driven by story and characters. That’s not to say I can’t enjoy a game without them, but I’m less likely spend a lot of time with it.
Music games are usually about perfecting a song and or getting a high score. The exception for my indifference to these games is probably Space Channel 5 and Rhythm Thief. They have fun plots and strong characters, as well as some pretty silly and cheesy music.
As I’ve gotten older, I have grown tired of repetition. Genres like music games, competitive online games and MMOs have all started to lose their appeal. I want to grow while progressing through new content. Re-challenging myself through the same dungeons or levels over and over again often feels like a waste of time, even if I enjoy the gameplay.
It’s sad that I can’t just have fun with a game and need that feeling of progression. But for now, that’s just what I like.
