I question just how well-known Ice Climber would be without Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl. Ice Climber isn’t a bad game and I’m sure it had its fans before its protagonists, Popo and Nana, appeared in Melee. But many, including myself, likely wouldn’t have gone out of their way to play it without the crossover.
I’m surprised that nothing else came out under the Ice Climber name. Even the long forgotten Kid Icarus protagonist, Pit, got a new game after appearing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Maybe a vertically scrolling platformer where you chip away at ice blocks is just too simple, even for a digital download. The original was rereleased multiple times, including this e-Reader version. The game’s code is stored and read off five physical cards, which in total takes ten swipes to load from.
Oddly enough, there’s a printing error on the back of one of the cards. It just starts a tip mid sentence.
