When you’re into Japanese video games and Japanese media in general, sometimes you start falling down a hole. There’s a bottom to that pit with some unsavory things, but on your way down you might land on a ledge and find a copy of Magical Date: Doki Doki Kokuhaku Daisakusen.
What you have here is essentially Mario Party for lonely people. You date your awkward 3D modeled girlfriend and play mini-games to win her praise. It was originally an arcade game, so it’s built for short pick up and play sessions.
You talk to your girlfriend and pick certain answers. As a filthy American with little knowledge of the Japanese language, I just guess random selections. I’m not sure if, or how, they effect the ending
One feature in this game is the ability to have photo shoots with your girlfriend. You pick an outfit for her and she’ll start to pose and spin around. I’m not sure how this is handled in the arcade version, but in the PlayStation release you can save these pictures to your memory card.
