I’m not a big fan of puzzle games and ChuChu Rocket is no exception. However, I have to give credit to the developers for making probably one of the more unique concepts I’ve seen in the genre.
Each level is basically a maze where you have to place arrows to direct a near constant flow of mice into your home base. It’s not easy though. Other players are on the same field as you and will redirect mice away from your base and towards their own. A single arrow by an opponent may require you to completely reroute your mice.
Other players aren’t your only opponents as cats walk the field and, if they enter your base, will eat a large number of the mice you’ve accumulated. This introduces a lot of strategy as you try to route cats to other players while directing the mice to your base. There’s also some randomized elements, like filling the board with mice, speeding up the gameplay and a bunch of other wacky stuff.
After all of this mess, whoever gets the most mice by the end wins.
It’s a pretty cool game and I really like the simplistic style. I just never could get into it probably due to a high demand of concentration, multi-tasking and coordination required to succeed. I should probably give it another shot. It’s been a good 7 years at least since I last played it.
