I don’t care much for Pokemon. I don’t have a problem with it existing, but my time with the series began and ended with Red and Blue. No, I’m not someone who’s going to say, “those were the best ones” or, “only the the original 151 Pokemon matter!” I just haven’t found a reason to revisit the series.
I got caught up in the Pokemania as a kid and legitimately liked the games. It was a fun and simple RPG that, while linear in many ways, always felt like an adventure. I’m sure the social aspect between my friends helped, too. I spent many nights by my night light playing both Red and Blue.
As I grew older, I came to hate Pokemon. Not because I thought it was kiddy or uncool, but I found it to be a stagnant. After a decade of dislike, I’ve regained respect for the series alongside many other franchises that focus on iteration. I still find it stagnant and boring, but I realize those who have been invested in the series can see the slight changes year over year.
Despite this, I still have a feeling of disgust when imaging picking the series back up. I would rather play almost any other game than Pokemon. It’s just that unappealing for me.
After I finished writing this post, my cat stepped all over my keyboard and gave a score to Pokemon Red: 0.1201……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………2.01
Wow, I’m shocked.
