The last time I had access to an up-to-date gaming PC was 2003, when I still lived with my dad. Occasionally, I’ll attempt to play something on my current laptop, but any retail release post 2005 never ends well.
Saints Row: The Third was the last game I attempted to run and it turned into a pretty hilarious experience. Although it was funny for different reasons than the ridiculous nature of the game itself.
I played online with my brother-in-law, who had a PC that could actually run the game. On my side, it rarely ran above 10 frames per second. Due to the performance differences, our worlds didn’t properly sync. We’d be driving in a car and just randomly explode or ram into invisible objects. Enemies would be in different locations, so it looked like we were fighting two completely separate sets of foes.
As the game got more hectic, it’d get even slower on my side. There were some missions that felt almost impossible with everything glitching out.
We beat it, somehow. I love the silly Mars ending.
