Tomodachi Life’s treatment of relationships was kind of awkward for me. It encourages you to incorporate people from your daily life into the game. Yet, obviously it can’t fully account for real world situations. In their Mii form, my sister wanted to marry me, my sister’s ex wanted to marry her, my brother-in-law wanted to marry a little girl and a tidal wave of other relationship issues came up.
It’s all good fun in a silly and bizarre little reality. But especially with the more sensitive relationships, I felt like it was my duty to deny them. I’d make sure their dates went poorly and force them to date others. Occasionally the game would throw a curve ball at you and have your Miis join relationships without your input.
It’s really dumb that I felt the need to stop these relationships. It’s not like they have any influence on the real world. But you’re playing house with fictional versions of people’s lives. Sometimes it just felt wrong to let these fake little relationships run their course.
