In this year of 2018, when websites are very relevant, one has been born: One Controller Port. It’s mine and still mostly about video games.

If you’re from my blog, Oculin’s Box… Welcome! The goal here is to have more organization, freedom to customize the layout as well as keep weekly content from flooding out the page. I have a lot of categories to work with now.

I’m not 100% sure what the Featured section will be, but I hope for bigger pieces to live on the front page longer. Below are the three latest articles and crafted videos. Podcasts and streams are listed in the “Weekly” section.

I also want some better discover-ability of older content. At the bottom of the page, you can find a “Highlights” section that randomizes some handpicked posts. As I go back through my catalog, I hope to add more.

I’m looking at pursuing some better implementations later, but it does re-surface content in a way that I haven’t been able to in the past. This is generated on each refresh, so please take a look whenever you visit. Maybe something will catch your interest.

That being said – the import process did not go as smoothly as I would like. All of 2018’s content is up to snuff, but anything before that is likely not formatted unless I selected it for a Highlight. It’s a lot of manual work, unfortunately.

Otherwise, I think the site is self-explanatory.

If you like the traditional chronological order, the Recent menu item shows all content as it was posted like before. Selecting Articles, Videos, Podcasts and Streams from the menu does the same but narrowed to their category.

You might be saying “you don’t put out enough content to justify this.”

I’m always trying to get out as much as I can. I apologies for the slow releases and lower quality, especially this year as I go from project to project that seems to take me away from all this stuff. I’m hoping in the near future I’ll be focusing on getting more content up.

With the new categorization options here, I think it will encourage me to try different types of posts that I may have been less likely to do with just a single feed.

Otherwise, let me know if you have any suggestions or requests. I can’t guarantee they’ll happen, but it helps to know.

As a side note, all of the Video Gaming Bits Tumblr posts were imported, along with Instagram posts that are now titled “My Collection.” These are not yet formatted for this site and are of varying quality. As I go through them, I’ll surface anything that seems of interest.

Some known issues:

– On the back end I had to make some garbage categories. Hopefully you won’t have these surfaced to you often. If you stumble across them, congratulations you found a secret.
– The featured image on post pages are not resizing correctly based on the browser size. That’s something that I’m looking into with the theme developers.
– Certain window sizes causes some of the featured article text to overlap.
– I had a bug happen where YouTube videos wouldn’t play properly when viewing the site in Chrome. Clearing my cache did the trick to resolving this.

For any updates, keep following my usual personal twitter. I don’t wanna run another twitter account just for this site, so it’s the good ol’ @Oculin.

Thanks!
