I’m not sure what possessed me to buy Yoshi. I had no idea what type of game it was, but the branding worked. Likely my curiosity was piqued since the character was introduced on the Super Nintendo yet had an entire NES game dedicated to him.
Turns out, it’s a falling-block puzzle game! I’ve never been much of a puzzle fan, but this game in particular is quite dull. You put down the bottom of a Yoshi egg shell, stack monsters on top of it, and then close it off with the top half of the shell. The more monsters you trap inside the egg, the more points you get.
I’m sure after enough time it speeds up and gets more challenging, but it lacks a greater depth I’d expect from games in the genre.
But who knows, maybe there’s some extreme Yoshi tournament scene out there… somewhere…
